Impatience breeds necessity

Normally I am very patient but I have recently discovered that there is a whole lot more to dies than just cutting out circles etc for shaped bases. I have some new dies on order courtesy of my son but after finding so many new techniques I had to try even though I had to improvise on all levels.

I used a memory box butterfly die and techniques I discovered on outside the box blog. I made 2 projects a card and a sparkly image for my book that I write challenges in.

I cut a quarter of a piece of A4 card and randomly cut 3 butterflies and repeated this for my second project. I removed all the little pieces from the 3 butterflies and coloured the butterflies with pink promarker. I coloured the card I cut the butterflies from with the same pink pen.

I overlaid the base card onto some lily of the valley flowered paper cut just a little larger than the white card so it formed a border.

I them inlaid the coloured butterflies into the spaces they were cut from and added the whole thing to a 5"by 7" white card. I finished the card with a simple peel-off sentiment.

I would like to enter this card into the following challenges:-

The craft barn - clean and simple

glitter n sparkle - things with wings

Crafts and me - spring

Simon says - take a leap into the unknown

outside the box-blossoms and bunnies
(sorry don't yet have any other memory box dies yet hope my improvisation and interpretation is ok)

creative inspirations - pretty projects

Live and love crafts - spring is in the air

My second experiment with this technique required more improvisation. The technique I had seen suggested using double sided sheet to enable glitter to be adhered to the dies missing bits. I didn't have any double sided sticky sheets only tape so I used several strips on the back of the second white card I had cut butterflies from.

I re-inlaid the butterflies and sprinkled each butterfly with a different coloured glitter, the tape worked quite well not perfect but well enough to satisfy my impatience till my dies arrive. I simply added to the front of my book and now no doubt I will sprinkle a little glitter where-ever my book goes.

I would like to enter this project into the following challenges;-

the craft barn - clean and simple

Naughty or nice - at the movies
(the butterfly effect)

shopping our stash - no white paper

Simon says - add some texture

crafting for all seasons-add some sparkle

This is fab, Julie! We often forget to use our pens for anything other than colouring in an image, so it's nice to see a whole card layer created using just one Promarker pen! I can spend ages trying to find the right colour cardstock to matt and layer and only once in a blue moon do I remember that I have a whole hoard of pens that I can quickly edge a plain piece of white cardstock and turn it into the perfect shade matt! Thanks for joining us this week at Passion for Promarkers! Lisa x

Beautiful card Julye. I love that you've reminded us to try and use our Promarkers in a different way other than just colouring an image. Your background and butterflies are really pretty. Thanks for joining us at PFP for Anna's 'girls only' challenge. Hugs, Denise x

What absolutely wonderful work you've done with your dies! I know what you mean about always learning more and more in the world of dies, but you did a really inspirational job. I was also impressed at how different you made these different cards look! Each one is unique and I thought it was genius of you to have patterned paper showing through the butterfly cuts on the first card. Thanks so much for taking a courageous technique leap and for joining us for this week's Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge!
