Twas the night before christmas

I love this poem, and when my son was little we had a family tradition that on Christmas eve afternoon we would cuddle up on the sofa and watch disney's the santa clause and then as my son was tucked into bed, I would read twas the night before christmas to him. It was amazing how he quite happily would snuggle down and go to sleep at a reasonable time, saying he was going to wake when he heard Santa on the roof.

Unfortunately those christmas eve's are long gone , though I still enjoy watching the Santa clause and reading the poem, why do children grow up and loose the magic, only to regain a little when they become parents. I managed to keep Santa alive until my son went to secondary school, but decided that that was the time to ask if he thougght Santa was real, my heart swelled when he did , but that only made it harder as I thought I should dispel the myth before his new school peers did and gave them extra tormenting and bullying ammunition, as there is nothing as hurtful as fellow children if one child stands out as vulnerable.

I now have a 16 year old son who would quite happily be like scruge some days and announced to me that he didn't really see the point in messing about putting up a tree and decorating the house, and wasn't really bothered about Christmas presents either.I really don't know where he gets it from, and it so winds him up that I keep putting christmas carol cd's on etc. I'm sure as christmas gets closer he will change as half the tiime I think it's his little way of rebelling, after all he can't do it in many other ways as being mobility challenged he can't just take off, and he likes bright colours too much, can't stand alcohol and detests the smell that lingers on anyone thaty smokes. His only other rebellious streak seems to be the amount he swears, for which I reprimand him at every verse end, to which I get stop nagging, it's just how we talk at school, and after hearing his peers it really is, they are all foul mouthed. Gosh I sound so old fashioned and I should be thankful that is his only vice.

Oops sorry ranting and waffling again, just tell me to shut up and get on with the craft bit. This card I've done for my step brother(well one of them) and his partner and family, well toddlers really. I was going to make cards for the little ones too but ,one is autistic and the other is being tested for the same and their mum lets them do anything and in the past brthday cards have lasted meer minutes before being destroyed by the wee ones, and I don't have the heart to spend alot of time letting that happen to something that takes a while to make, selfish I know. Maybe they will be better as they get older, or their mum might decide that they need boundaries, who knows only time will tell. I know autism has such wide boundary lines but after nursing all levels I can't help thinking that their mum will suffer in the long run by letting them run riot at this stage.

My card as it's for the little ones too I put a santa image on the front, nice big and bold colours. The sentiment is from LOTV and I love it and have used it quite alot so far this year. I used 2 different star papers and a paper with script on it to give a vintage feel. The sentiment I embossed in moonglow copper obsidian powder to tie in with the script. The base santa is sat on was a die cut Susie Sugar at die cut dreams sent me in one of her mini candies.

I coloured the image which was from in sakura glaze pens and promarkers.

I would like to enter this card for the following challenges:-

Hi Julye,
It's a symptom of te time that I wonder if each Xmas will be the last that my oldest son staops believing in Santa. He's only 7, but peer pressure will tell soon I fear. This is a gorgeous card, what a lovely image of Santa. Thanks for joining us at C4E.

What a cheerful and colourful Christmas card, this image looks vintage which I love. Just tell your son he isn't to say anything that will destroy your belief in Santa :)
